Curing Effects on Epoxy Resin Properties

In many polymers, the intermolecular forces that align the chains closely together are strong enough for the polymer to inherently possess the required mechanical strength. In other types of polymers, the intermolecular bonding, along with the arrangement of chains and side groups, leads to crystallization. The crystallization of polymer chains enhances their physical properties.
However, in the category of thermosetting resins, neither the intermolecular forces are sufficiently strong, nor is crystallization possible to achieve a solid physical state at room temperature. Therefore, to create three-dimensional cross-links and increase their mechanical resistance, compounds are used that form bidirectional bonds with the polymer chains, chemically stabilizing them alongside each other and resulting in a solid physical form
